MEET THE LACBC STAFF
Jennifer Klausner, Executive Director, jennifer@la-bike.org
Jennifer Klausner has served as Executive Director of LACBC since summer 2007. Prior to joining LACBC, her career focused on consumer products marketing and branding, in product development/licensing roles with Hello Kitty and Barbie, at Nakajima and Mattel, respectively. Jennifer grew up in Los Angeles, holds degrees from both UCLA and USC, and has commuted by bike throughout her post-graduate career. She has a diverse bike advocacy experience, is an avid and still occasionally competitive mountain biker, a USAC certified Coach and a League of American Bicyclists LCI.
Dorothy Le, Planning and Policy Director, Dorothy@la-bike.org
As Planning and Policy Director of LACBC, Dorothy lobbies politicians, consults with city government, and activates cyclists to develop and enhance bicycle infrastructure and education. At the end of 2008, Dorothy completed her one year as Quiksilver SiteLA Visionary in Residence, which allowed her to host creative events, safety workshops, and bicycle rides to promote awareness of the bicycling community in the mainstream. In 2007, she graduated from UCLA and is proud to be a Bruin. As a staff member of LACBC and as a native Angelena, Dorothy is excited to help Los Angeles reach its potential to become a green city, full of bicycles, clean air, open space, and thriving community.
Aurisha Smolarski, Campaigns and Communications Director, aurisha@la-bike.org
Aurisha has been actively involved in the bicycling community in LA for over 6 years. She got her start at the Bicycle Kitchen and for the past 4 years has been working with LACBC as a volunteer, then a Board member and now as the Outreach/Advocacy Coordinator. At LACBC, she advocates for more bicycle infrastructure and cyclists' rights. She communicates regularly with city officials, government agencies, and the cycling community to ensure that cycling needs are met. She develops campaigns, organizes events, manages membership and sends out the weekly email newsletters. In her non-bike life, she is a Grad Student at Antioch University, lives at the LA Eco-Village and sings and plays violin in her band Telematique.
Megan Dean, Bike Locker Coordinator, megan@la-bike.org
Megan works with Metro and LADOT on maintaining and updating their locker programs. Outside of locker world, Megan spends her time eating vegan food, riding bikes so she can eat more, drinking coffee with her puppies and kitten, and these days she spends a lot of time building custom bicycle frames as Moth Attack. Occasionally, you can spot her volunteering at the Bicycle Kitchen (Bitchen!) or riding/racing at a nearby Velodrome. She grimaces and makes goofy faces when you try to take photos of her, but lets Allison take them anyway.
Colin Bogart, PLACE Coordinator, colin@la-bike.org
Before joining our staff, Colin Bogart was a volunteer for the LACBC from 2000 to 2008. He's recruited volunteers, helped organize rides, and served on the Board of Directors from 2003-2007. As the new PLACE Grant Coordinator, Colin is working closely with a team of Glendale City Staff members to make Glendale a better place to walk or ride a bike. True to his love of two wheels, Colin has four bikes crammed into his small apartment: a trusty commuter, a road bike, a touring rig, and a mountain bike. Not quite satisfied with four, he wants to get a folding bike - eventually. He's particularly fond of bicycle touring and a tour of the Columbia River Gorge is one of the most amazing rides he's ever done. The Great Western Bicycle Rally in Paso Robles is becoming a yearly ritual for Colin. He can't resist the roads of the central coast and all that great wine! When he's not dreaming of riding past vineyards, he's often riding somewhere in East Hollywood, downtown LA, in Glendale, and everywhere in between. On most Sunday mornings you might see him riding to or from the Hollywood Farmers market.
JJ Hoffman, River Ride Coordinator, lariverride@yahoo.com
JJ Hoffman has been biking in L.A. to work and play since 1990. She started working with the LACBC as a volunteer in 2003, then, with Lupe Vela created Bicycle Sundae, Spooky Ride, Nacimiento tour and other fun rides. In 2005 she was distracted by something shiny and before she knew it what was happening, became the Volunteer Coordinator for that year's Annual Los Angeles River Ride. She was just crazy enough to wear the big girl pants as the Los Angeles River Ride Coordinator in '06, '07, '08 and will probably be doing it until it finally kills her. Pray for her.
Allison Mannos, Urban Programs Coordinator, allison@la-bike.org
Allison hearts taking photos of abandoned urban landscapes and eccentric characters. Got hardcore LA Pride, son! She is actively working on identity politics/queer writing and photo projects and doesn't drive. She is currently attending UCLA as an Asian-American Studies and Urban Planning student. She previously was active in the Students for Educational Reform (SER) Club at LACC and does Los Angeles Food Not Bombs. She is working to help develop expanded programs to reach out to bicyclists of color, as well as take back LA's streets from cars (Ciclovia), since summer 2008. Whut?! She also helped found and coordinates the City of Lights Program, which outreaches to Latino, low-income cyclists in the Pico-Union area.
Juliet Marshall, Membership and Volunteer Coordinator, juliet@la-bike.org
Juliet studied Liberal Arts at Marymount College, and Social Sciences/Cross Cultural Studies at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She has experience in California Archaeology, Photofinishing/Digital Imaging, Hotel Management and Motorsports Event Hospitality. After 8 years with Auto Club Speedway, Juliet spent a year off in Sydney, Australia, riding her bike and living without a car. While in Sydney, Juliet volunteered for Bicycle New South Wales for the Women's "Gear Up Girl Challenge" 55k Ride. When Juliet returned to L.A. in May 2009, she started as a volunteer for LACBC at the 9th Annual L.A River Ride, and also worked for the Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA) at the Men's & Women's LA Tennis Opens.
