Your participation in the River Ride will continue to contribute to all the progress made in revitalizing the LA River.

SIGN THE LETTER TO SUPPORT A BETTER BIKE PLAN
LACBC has been working hard over the last few weeks to mobilize bicyclists and the groups that represent them - as well as individuals and organizations more broadly supportive of safe and connected streets - to rally for a stronger, better LA Bike Plan.

What's wrong with the new proposed Bike Plan and what's been happening with the Update process? What can you do to help out? Along with C.I.C.L.E, the LACBC has compiled a Bike Plan FAQ that will walk you through the questions you have about the Bike Plan update. We've also been reaching out to diverse groups, from the AARP of Southern California and IDEPSCA (an immigrants-rights organization) to the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and City Councilmember Jan Perry's office, We have already received some letters supporting a Better Bike Plan from these organizations. Go to our blog to read the letters.

So what's a better bike plan look like? The LACBC has made two key requests, that there be a net gain in total number of all bikeways facilities from the 1996 plan, and that a rigorous system of goals and deadlines be part of making those in charge of implementing the Bike Plan accountable.

You too can sign our letter asking for a Better Bike Plan. Sign the letter TODAY!

With your help, we'll see that Better Bike Plan materialize in no time! Sign onto the letter TODAY asking Mayor Villaraigosa to support a Better LA City Bike Plan.
LACBC BIKE PARKING COMMUNITY RESOURCE GUIDE
Created by LACBC City of Lights, this guide will have an important impact on creating a more accessible, empowering way for the community to improve their neighborhoods and make them more livable, especially low-income neighborhoods that may have been left behind in the city's planning process. This guide can help you get started on increasing bike parking racks in your neighborhood. Read more about the process...

Report those accidents, hazardous road conditions and thefts that you encounter along your daily travels in the Los Angeles area. This site offers an easy and effective way to report accidents, hazardous road conditions and thefts in the Los Angeles area. This information is crucial to bicycle advocacy. We can use this data to push for more bicycle infrastructure to make streets safer for cyclists, to account for more unreported accidents and to advise street services to repair dangerous road conditions, such as potholes. Tracking high theft areas will enable us to alert you of the hot spots to hopefully reduce thefts from occurring.

2009 was a great year for bicyclists. We are excited about 2010 and are looking forward to a year full of exciting campaigns, advocacy, and education efforts.

Here is a sampling of some of our goals for this year:
  • Launch Separated Bike Lane pilot on Huntington Blvd in Boyle Heights
  • Work to get a bike lane installed on 7th Street
  • Continue building relationship with LAPD by establishing an enforcement education workshop with LAPD
  • Increase bike parking city-wide starting with 30-40 locations in LA
  • Get Sharrows Pilot launched and on LA City streets
  • Get a Better Bike Plan approved that includes timelines and substantially more designated bike lanes
  • 4th Street Bicycle Blvd - Gain neighborhood buy-in to develop political support and have the city adopt a commitment to implement
  • Create more opportunities for partnership with business community, environmental groups, and social justice groups
  • Expand our reach to more cities across LA County, in addition to Glendale, Culver City, Long Beach and South Bay cities
  • Create a bike repair space at Downtown Job Center and develop a Bike Repair Job Certificate program with the Bicycle Kitchen
  • Improve policy for bikes on Metro transit
  • Finalize the Resource Guide both in Spanish and English
  • Ensure that 10th Annual River Ride is LACBC's best ride ever
