Bicyclist and Pedestrian Count Update

Thanks to everyone who helped with the bicyclist and pedestrian count on September 16 and 19! Eighty-five volunteers counted bicyclists and pedestrians at 26 different locations city-wide. Each volunteer did at least one two-hour shift, some did two or three shifts. Thank you! You can also read about the count on the Glendale News Press website.

The Downtown Glendale Merchants Association donated gift certificates as a token of thanks for the volunteers. We appreciate the generosity of The Alex Theatre, Damon’s Steakhouse, and Massage Envy Spa for their donations.

Now that the data has been collected, it will be compiled and a report will be made available to the public. We hope to have the report ready sometime in October. The count results will establish a baseline of information to help determine how many people are walking and biking in Glendale and where. Determining the number of bicyclists and pedestrians will help make the case for why the City of Glendale should invest funds in more bike/ped projects and also help demonstrate an increase in cycling/walking over time as the City makes bike and pedestrian-friendly improvements.

Safe & Healthy Streets Community Meetings
Starting in October, we will be hosting a series of meetings where the public can share what’s good or bad about walking or biking in Glendale. Individuals who live or work in Glendale are encouraged to attend these meetings. The information provided by the public about their experiences will help develop the Safe and Healthy Streets Plan, a set of bicycle and pedestrian policy recommendations for the City to adopt. Translation into Spanish or Armenian will be provided upon request by calling (818) 548-2000 at least 72 hours prior to the meeting date. Click here to see the flyer.
