Salute to Our Founding Fathers Sunday Funday Ride on July 3rd

June 16, 2011
event
Sunday, July 3, 2011 - 9:30am

When: Sunday, July 3; Meet at 9:30 AM, Ride at 10:00 AM

Where: Meet at the fountain outside Father's Office - 3229 Helms Avenue, 90034 (between Venice and Washington; see map)

When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for an Angeleno to spend a Sunday morning exploring our fair city by bike, better connecting themselves with the community, and freeing themselves from the tyranny of the automobile.  For this reason,  LACBC has established Sunday Funday rides on the first Sunday of each month. We, the LACBC, hold these truths to be self evident.  That cyclists are entitled to a fair and equal share of the road. That riding together with other cyclists on a Sunday morning is a great way to assert this right. That mulitas and tacos made from fresh corn tortillas at La Taquiza are that much more delicious after earning them on a short ride. And finally, that a beer at Father's Office at the end of a ride is essentially calorie-free.

Read on for more information. . .

So join us for the next Sunday Funday ride, led by LACBC Board Member Greg Laemmle! On the day before Independence Day, help us honor our Founding Fathers and three first Presidents with a ride on Washington, Adams, and Jefferson Boulevards. We will start out at the Helms Bakery District, ride through the historic neighborhood of West Adams, check out the old tombstones at Angelus Rosedale Cemetery, grab a bite at La Taquiza near USC, and see the route of the new Expo Line on our return leg.

Getting there: Do not park at Helms! Street parking is available nearby, but check signs carefully. Only 2 hours allowed on Venice on South side of street. Unlimited parking on North side of street on Sunday.
You can also park on Regent Street between Hutchinson Avenue and Ivy Street, just a block or so from meeting location. The Helms Bakery District is also accessible by the 733 bus (Venice & National) and 33 bus (Venice & Helms).

Ride length: 20 miles, roughly 4 hours (includes time for lunch and stops)

Ride difficulty: Easy, for riders of all ages and skill levels, moderately paced, few hills, city riding, but much of it within bike lanes

What to bring: Helmet, water, money (for lunch), bike lock (if you have one; if not, we'll share), sunscreen.

Weather Policy: It's the middle of summer so it most likely won't rain. However, it might be hot, though, so bring water and sunscreen.

Ride Support: We're looking for a reliable caboose and one or two people to ride in the middle of the pack. Pump, patch kit, tire tools and extra tubes welcome.

RSVP: To RSVP or volunteer as ride support, please contact Carol Feucht, Membership Manager, at carol@la-bike.org.

About Sunday Fundays: Sunday Funday Rides are free and open to LACBC members plus one guest. Interested in becoming a member? Sign up for membership online or become a member at the ride at a discounted price.
