The Santa Clarita Valley Bicycle Coalition works to keep all of the Santa Clarita Valley, and its communities, a fun, safe, bikeable place to live. Formed in March of 2014, after a visiting competitive cyclist was rear-ended and maimed by a motorist, the cycling community rallied to create a group that could share and address safety and bike advocacy concerns.
Based within the city of Santa Clarita, our Chapter of LACBC works hard to represent cyclists, on and off road, commuters and recreational users, all types of all ages. We partner with the city often to encourage bike programming and events, and we communicate and cooperate with the city on civic issues, including infrastructure and community culture, making biking better for residents across the region. As the chapter of LA County’s third largest city, we use our muscle to better influence and shape the growth and development of unincorporated county lands too.
Our Chapter likes to say that we are putting a New West spin on Santa Clarita’s Old West heritage. Our goals include making the area just as fun to visit on a bike to view the Tour of California as it is to settle down in and ride here regularly out to the iconic film ranches of the western genre they made famous. The on road views are nearly as good as those from the mountain tops of the off-road trails, and we hope to make those places reachable for more and for many years to come in sustainable ways. We make it a point to show the community that bikes have a preferred presence here for many good reasons.
