Founded in 1998, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) works to build a better, more bike-able Los Angeles County. LACBC is the only membership-based nonprofit organization working exclusively for the millions of people who ride bikes in Los Angeles County. Through advocacy, education and outreach, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition brings together the diverse bicycling community in a united mission to make the entire L.A. region a safe and enjoyable place to ride.

Regarding the recent tragic collision on Jefferson and Hetzler early in the morning on Thursday, June 16th, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) and Culver City Bicycle Coalition (CCBC) are concerned about the preliminary report prepared by City of Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) citing pedestrians in the roadway as the cause of the collision. We have posted an open letter to the City of Culver City and the Culver City Police Department in regards to the cause of the collision and investigation. We urge the city to dedicate all possible resources to ensure a thorough and accurate investigation in a timely manner.

Today our thoughts are with the cyclists injured last night while on the K-town Ride and with all of the Ridazz who witnessed this horrible collision. LACBC has been in contact with LAPD and we will continue to monitor this incident and work with the entire bicycle community to make sure all involved are okay, they have good legal representation, and justice is served.

On June 5th, we saw over 2,000 riders of all ages and abilities roll out in perfect riding weather for the 11th Annual Los Angeles River Ride! We’re in our 11th year, and each year we are always amazed at how much time, energy, and dedication so many people give to make the River Ride what it is.
